The B-47 Stratojet was a strategic bomber designed to fly at high subsonic speed and at high altitudes to avoid enemy interceptor aircraft. It was the world’s first swept-wing bomber and the first to use a bicycle arrangement for the landing gear, necessitated by the thin wings. Every large jet aircraft today is a descendant of the B-47.
